Participant: creating your account and signing in

Overview

You cannot create an account on your own initiative — account creation requires an invitation. Everything you need is in the invitation email you received.

What you need

Two things, both in that email:

• the email address the invitation was sent to

• your Invitation ID

The Invitation ID is what attaches your account to the transaction concerned.

Creating your account

1. Open the link in your invitation email. Doing it this way fills in both your email address and your Invitation ID for you, which is the easiest way to get them right. You can instead go to the sign-in page and choose Sign up, and enter them yourself.

2. Check the email shown is the address the invitation was sent to, and that the Invitation ID is filled in.

3. Choose a password. It must be at least eight characters.

4. Accept the terms and conditions and read the privacy policy.

5. Confirm with Create account.

6. Check your email for a verification code. The page then asks you to Enter the code received by email. Type it in and confirm.

That last step is not optional — your account is not created until the code is entered, so stay on the page rather than closing it and coming back.

If no code arrives within a few minutes, look in your spam or junk folder. It is the usual reason. You can also use Send new code to have another sent, and if nothing arrives at all the page offers a link to contact support.

It must be the address the invitation was sent to. Signing up with a different email address will fail, even if the Invitation ID is right — the two are checked together. If you would rather be reached at another address, ask the team that invited you to reissue the invitation, rather than trying to substitute it here.

If you are typing them in, copy and paste rather than retyping. A single extra character is the most common reason this fails.

Signing in afterwards

1. On the sign-in screen, enter your email and password.

2. Sign in. You arrive at your dashboard, showing your pending tasks (B1.3).

If you have forgotten your password, use Forgot password? on that screen.

While you are here: set your anti-phishing phrase

Once your account exists, set your anti-phishing phrase in your profile (B1.11). It takes a minute and it means every genuine email you receive afterwards carries a phrase only you would recognise.

If something goes wrong

"The email or invitation ID is not valid." One of the two does not match the invitation. Copy and paste them from the email rather than typing them.

"An account with the same email address already exists." You already have an account — sign in instead of signing up, and use Forgot password? if needed.

"The email or password is invalid." Deliberately the same message for both cases, so that it does not reveal which accounts exist. Check both.

"Your account is awaiting validation." The account exists but is not yet active. Check whether a validation email is waiting for you — including in your spam folder.

The verification code never arrived. Check spam first, then use Send new code. A code also expires, so an old one from an earlier attempt will be refused: request a fresh one rather than reusing it.

"The verification code is invalid, please try again." Either a character is wrong, or the code has expired. Request a new one with Send new code.

"Too many attempts, please wait a few seconds before trying again." Wait a few seconds; this is not a permanent block.

"Password must contain at least eight characters." That is the only length requirement.
